As greenhouse gases accumulate and warming accelerates, the ice, ocean, and ecosystems that keep our planet in balance are under growing stress. The world is crossing thresholds that scientists have long warned are dangerous.
Without targeted action, we could push the planet past tipping points that trigger the collapse of ocean currents, the disappearance of glaciers, and the dieback of the Amazon, Great Barrier Reef, and other critical ecosystems that humans rely on.
Public research allows us to prepare for what’s coming, understand our options, and rule out what doesn’t work.

Cutting emissions is the only solution – and we are making progress – but severe, near-term climate risks are accelerating faster than mitigation can address and adaptation can absorb.
Governments need a credible picture of the risks their citizens face and the options for reducing them. That requires rigorous, transparent, well-governed public research and the ability to wisely consider what it finds.
